[작품 소개] 딴생각 (Brain Sketch)
작가 지아혁은 그림에게 말을 건넨다 . 떠오르는 딴생각들을 읊조리며 자동화 기법을 사용하여 즉 각적으로 화폭에 그려 내려가는 작가만의 참신한 방식은 진정한 나를 찾아가는 과정이다 . 사회에 동화되어 살아가기 위해 만들어진 페르소나와 그 속에 감추어진 내면의 목소리 사이의 괴리를 탐 구하며 , 작가가 진정으로 느끼는 감정 , 생각 , 욕망들을 한 글자 한 글자씩 토해내듯 꺼내어 놓는 다 자유로운 표현법으로 배출된 생각들이 화면에 차곡차곡 쌓여간다 . 작가의 내면에서 나온 사적인 흔적들은 복잡하게 흩어져 알아보기 힘든 낙서처럼 보이며 , 최종적으로 드러난 시각적 형태에서 는 작가의 생각이 무엇이었는지 , 어떤 감정을 만나 이를 표현한 것인지 정확히 알 수 없다 . 그러 나 작가의 무의식적인 경험을 담은 결과물은 그 자체로 강렬한 에너지를 뿜어내고 , 감상자의 마 음 속 깊은 곳으로 연결되어 커다란 파동을 만들어낸다 . 딴생각 은 자각하지 못했던 나의 감 정을 되돌아보고 진정한 자신을 찾는 상징적인 행위가 된다.
[작가 소개]
지아혁은 1997 년생으로 예술 명문인 영국 런던 골드스미스 대학에서 Fine Art 를 전공하여 수석으 로 졸업하고 , 현재 유럽과 한국을 오가며 활발한 전시 활동을 하고 있는 젊은 아티스트다 . 주로 정체성 을 주제로 작품 활동을 하고 있는 지아혁은 새로운 재료와 신선한 작업방식으로 현대인의 사회적 페르소나와 그 내면에 억눌린 감정들을 표현한다 . 나무 문짝과 한지 , 페인트와 먹 등 동서 양의 이질적 재료들이 만나 만들어낸 , 겹겹이 쌓인 낙서와도 같은 시각적 결 과물은 감상자들에게 내면을 탐색할 수 있는 창을 제공한다 . 지아혁 작가는 대학 졸업과 동시에 파리 , 베니스 , 런던 등 의 여러 갤러리에서 초대전을 진행하였으며 , 특히 런던의 세계적인 갤러리 Saatchi Gallery 와 Surface Gallery 에서 개인전을 진행하며 많은 컬렉터들로부터 주목받고 있는 , 또한 앞으로가 더욱 기대되는 작가이다.
[Artwork Introduction] Brain Sketch
Artist Jeah Hyuck communicates with his paintings, whispering the random thoughts that arise in his mind. Using an automatic technique, he directly translates these thoughts onto the canvas in real-time. This unique method of creation represents a process of discovering his true self. By exploring the gap between the persona created to fit into society and the hidden inner voice within, Jeah Hyuck brings forth his genuine emotions, thoughts, and desires, expressing them freely, as if vomiting each word onto the canvas. The thoughts that emerge through this unrestrained form of expression gradually accumulate on the screen. The personal traces from within the artist appear like chaotic scribbles, hard to decipher, and the final visual form does not clearly reveal what the artist's thoughts were or which emotions they were trying to express. However, the outcome of the artist’s unconscious experience exudes a powerful energy, creating a deep connection with the viewer’s heart and generating a great wave. Brain Sketch becomes a symbolic act of returning to forgotten emotions and searching for the true self.
[Artist Introduction]
Jeah Hyuck, born in 1997, is a young artist who graduated with honors from Goldsmiths, University of London, a renowned art school, where he majored in Fine Art. Currently, he is actively involved in exhibitions in both Europe and Korea. Jeah Hyuck often focuses on the theme of identity in his works, expressing the social persona of contemporary individuals and the repressed emotions within, using new materials and innovative techniques. The visual outcome, created by combining seemingly disparate materials from both Eastern and Western traditions—such as wooden doors, Hanji (Korean paper), paint, and ink—becomes a layered, graffiti-like structure, offering viewers a window into their own inner explorations. Upon graduation, Jeah Hyuck held solo exhibitions in various galleries, including in Paris, Venice, and London, gaining attention from collectors, especially for his solo shows at Saatchi Gallery and Surface Gallery in London. Jeah Hyuck is an artist who continues to be closely watched, and his future work is eagerly anticipated.
